“Ways of Tunghak”
Bolo and Cuff Set
“A hunter dances the mask of Tunghak, the Keeper of the Game.
In the ancient ways, he prays for the knowledge of the animals that will come to him to provide food, shelter and clothing; to sustain his family, his people and their Traditional way of life.
The fossilized Walrus Ivory mask of the hunter is placed in the cuff, while the mask of Tunghak is set within the bolo. Symbolically, the hunter is looking up in prayer to Tunghak, while both are surrounded by symbols that represent eagle feathers to carry the prayers, the mountains that conceal the game and a dual-point harpoon that helps the hunter provide.”
“Ways of Tunghak” Cuff and Bolo set is a special collaborative effort with multi-award winning artist, Glenda McKay, 2019 Santa Fe Indian Market Best of Show winner. It is the product of several years of discussions, planning and ideas, all formalized and completed in 2020 and into 2021. It is crafted from Fossilized Walrus Ivory, antique Seed Beads, Whale Baleen, Sterling Silver.
