Crafted from Madrone Burl, African Blackwood, Curly Bloodwood and leather; fabricated, stamped, textured and formed Sterling Silver; sandcast and overlayed 14k Yellow Gold, “Horse Stealing Songs” is a  progressive Southern Plains warbling flute. Melding the mediums of instrument making, sculpture, ledger art, jewelry design and concert tuning, “Horse Stealing Songs” showcases complimentary and contrasting textures and colors of wood, metal, paper and leather.

Exhibition grade exotic and domestic woods are laminated, laser aligned and bored from each end, forming two interior chambers within the flute. Exacting concert tuning is achieved within a unique, climate controlled environment at precisely 72 degrees F. The exterior is shaped by a combination of lathe turning and extensive hand sanding. Ledger paper is applied using archival techniques with overlain hand-sawn and formed Sterling Silver horses and scissortail flycatchers. The Horse Mask adorning the flute is fabricated, stamped, textured, formed and patinated Sterling Silver with sandcast, solid 14k Yellow Gold buffalo horns and overlaid nose strips. The finish is applied in eight layers of sprayed, pre-catalized lacquer, wet sanded between each coat and finally hand-buffed and polished to a warm, natural glow. The minimalist display is crafted from natural edged Maple Burl and Brass.
